The Snowman by Jo Nesbø

Um ok. So I understand why people enjoy this but I'm hesitant to say that I understand why it's considered such a great thriller. I really wanted to love this. I wanted to be blown away. Maybe high expectations were my problem.

On one had the writing was very descriptive. At times, too descriptive. This could have been half as long and just as effective.
On the other hand, the plot was... iffy at best. I’m an adult, granted not in Norway, but what is up with everyone acting like a teenager who just learned how to masturbate? Is Norway full of sex addicts? (I googled the most sexually active countries and Norway doesn’t even place in the top 10).
SpoilerI understand infidelity was a huge part of the plot but literally EVERYONE was horny all the time. (slight exaggeration)

Harry Hole was a shit detective. The best on the force?! Mmm... ok. Maybe it's because his brain function has deteriorated because of alcoholism but he overlooked really obvious clues that were right in front of him.

I didn’t like how crazy was used by a professional psychologist. That’s not an actual diagnosis.
On top of the overly sexual personalities, everyone had some sort of undiagnosed psychosis and the capability to commit heinous acts. The population seems too small for that to be the case. Unless there’s something in the water.

The ending was anti-climatic. We get confirmation on who the killer is around chapter 30(you probably will figure it out before then) and spend the next 8 chapters dicking around.
