A moving book that tells a lesser known part of the Vietnam war. A fascinating read in which the author’s dedication to research is palpable. It does not shy away from trauma and there are moments where the panic and horror become visceral. There are times when the amount of terrible things that happen to the protagonist seem overwhelming, but I thought that was quite intentional on the author’s part. Trauma, as we see in this book, affects all aspects of life. Well written but very heavy read.
