The Adventures of Sunny and Daisy: Volume 1 by Allyn Hamrick
3.0
Well this was absolutely adorable! For a debut, I would say this is a huge success! It was cozy and warm, with just the right amount of fantasy and world building for a short prequel or prologue. I really like the characters and how they’re not your typical fantasy creatures. The addition of an Orc was quite brilliant! I especially liked the little details about the mushrooms with the legs lol and the Gnome who protects their garden. It’s the little things like that, that really pique my interest and make a book more fun.
Couple small critiques because I do keep my reviews honest; it felt like we were being pulled in a few different directions with the potential plot. That could very well be on purpose, but it felt just a little bit disconnected for me. I also would’ve liked to have seen a bit more in the way of editing. There’s some minor grammatical errors, sentence restructuring and overuse of a few words that could really use some attention, but most people won’t notice those things - It’s my editors brain that gets tripped up on that lol, so it’s definitely a me problem.
Honestly, overall I think it’s a fantastic debut! It’s a quick, curl up with a cup of tea and escape for a few minutes kind of read and I’m really looking forward to the next instalments in this series!
