The book that should be a must-read for every overstimulated and overwhelmed parent or caregiver.
Turn Down the Noise is one of those rare parenting books that is easy to read and extremely practical. It’s different from many books in this category because Sarah Boyd focuses her attention not only on kids but on parents as well.
This book came to me at the perfect time. As a mother and primary caregiver to 13-month-old twins (without full-time help), I often find myself overstimulated. These days, with teething and sleep regression, life gets challenging. Sometimes, I fall into the TV trap just to get a moment of calm, even though it goes against my principles for raising children. That’s why I devoured every word of Turn Down the Noise, eager to learn how to control my emotions and energy levels while cutting back on TV time and still finding space for myself and my other responsibilities.
I loved how it explores both the inner world (self- and co-regulation, connection, coping skills) and the outer world (clutter, screen time, internet). Turn Down the Noise also touches on family traditions, education, and work-life balance.
Although the author’s perspective is openly Christian, offering advice for Christian families, as a Muslim, I still found relatable insights into religious upbringing and noted a few useful tips for myself.
I believe Turn Down the Noise complements Good Inside by Dr. Becky Kennedy perfectly. I hope Sarah Boyd’s book receives the same level of media attention because it did provide me an ease of mind and a practical toolset for years beforehand.
Thank you to Tyndale House Publishers and NetGalley for trusting me with an advanced copy of this wonderful book.
