The Elites have power, the Ordinaries do not. Ordinaries have been banished or face death. Paedyn, the FMC is an Ordinary pretending to be an Elite so she isn't killed. After she saves the youngest Prince, she is voted into the Trials (it's giving The Hunger Games vibes)

If you enjoy a dystopian fantasy, you might like this. If you feel all dystopian fantasies are the same, you'd be right about this one. It feels like a rehashed version of every other DF out there.

I liked it but I didn't feel it was worth the hype I've heard. The storyline had several points where I contemplated DNFing as there wasn't much happening or it felt repetitive.

It will not be going on my re-read pile, and possibly may not bother finishing the trilogy as the story isn't really holding my interest.
