IDK HOW TO FEEL. i have such an intense hatred for this book actually. compared to the original series this was such a disappointment but it’s so.. idk how to describe it other than realistic. because in my opinion the original series was a romantic tragedy, so this book is realistically how mara and noah’s story would continue. but seeing mara from an outside perspective is not for the weak. she is THE unreliable narrator, but seeing her just as the ANTI-hero that she is for once is so jarring. i don’t know what to rate this because it is consistent with its insane plot twists but i DREAD having to read it. i’m so mad and annoyed and waiting for some sort of happily ever after that is never going to happen. mara will always be a murderer no matter how much resolution we get, and she’s just changed so much since the first book that i just can’t force myself to read this. michelle hodkin is only capable of writing captivating novels, PARABLES even, but somehow i still wish this book could go away. one thing i hated was how freaky they were.. but obv that’s just a me problem. also i love jamie. ALSO i had this complaint about the last book but i hate how adult the characters are trying to be while being teens. like wdym mara’s never gonna go home again????? even if it’s dangerous she’s just gonna abandon her family??? she’s a teenager????! idk i get it, but it still icked me out.
