Legit do not understand how this is the same author as the person who gave us the idiocy that is Divergent. This was excellent, with continued character and world-building that picks right up from the first book and sets things up nicely for a third one (and I hope more?). There’s a plot that moves, a condensed timeline that still manages to pack in a ton, more backstory, some real emotional beats and some fairly rough moments (the Knights are not nice, y’all) — and also some solid thematic elements about humanity and family. Just all around excellent.
