Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

5.0

This book is a lyrical story about friendship, love and family.
Aristotle is a silent guy whereas Dante is very expressive. The story is mainly described from Ari’s POV. How he is sad and lonely and can't figure out why.

Ari has no friends but during his summer break, he meets Dante at the swimming pool and offers to teach him how to swim. They do not bond easily in the starting but soon they start to spend most of their time together. And their friendship turns into the sort of bond that challenges Ari to believe about himself and his capacitor love.

I loved the mood and tone of this book, it made me warm. I liked Aristotle, the main character, even though he's kind of a jerk. But the thing is he doesn't want to be a jerk. I loved how Ari protected Dante and got himself injured and the way he reacted when Dante was beaten up! I loved the emphasis on family. And the ending was beautiful. So beautiful. I related to the main character, his struggles of culture and feeling lonely and regretting growing up. I just wanted to hug Aristotle.

I didn't realize how beautiful this book is, how it made me happy, until the end. This is absolutely a new favourite!❤️
