The Lives of Saints by Leigh Bardugo

This was such a fun trip back into the Grishaverse and is the absolute perfect way of further delving into all the lore involved. Not to mention that the art was absolutely gorgeous and perfectly added to the story (a staple of any of the Grishaverse additional books). If you’re a fan of the Grishaverse or if you’re just interested in a quick read with some cool short stories, absolutely read this.

THE LIVES OF SAINTS is a book that exists within the Grishaverse, telling a short history on all the saints mentioned or not within other Grishaverse books. From stories of peril and betrayal to invention and love, the saints and their consequences are varied but impossible to put down.

I have to gush about the art really quick because it was truly beautiful. The illustrations just added so many layers and gave a great way of visualing the stories easily, while also continuing to be lush and rich. I have absolutely zero complaints about this and I only wish that I could inject these illustrations directly into my veins.

The stories were also really enjoyable as well. Bite-sized enough to quickly get through but in depth enough that I completely understood the story that was trying to be told. Really balancing the line in short stories of what’s too short and what’s too long. The book ultimately provides a closer look (and while I’m sure that many of us would be happy to read an entire textbook about the Grishaverse if Leigh Bardugo asked), while not going too overboard. I do think that some of the stories wouldn’t have been hurt by more detail and ultimately I do wish that there was a little bit more, but I do still think in the end it worked.

Really, I just enjoyed this book. I don’t think it’ll ever be my absolute favourite but I would definitely reread and greatly enjoyed the time spent reading.
