Good as Dead by Susan Walter
3.0

When Holly's husband is killed in a hit-and-run accident Evan, a fixer for a Hollywood bigwig, promises to take care of Holly and her 16 YO daughter Savannah as long as they remain silent regarding the accident. Holly and Savannah both have issues adjusting, feeling guilty over the lack of justice for the death of their loved one, their acceptance of the blood money, the transition from poverty to wealth, curious neighbors in their new location, etc.

The book transitions from the POV of the various characters, as well as back and forth in time. The suspense arises from the new neighbors looking into Holly's history and how long the coverup will last. There were some details I found irksome. Holly doesn't bother to look into how to get her husband's social security or possible military pension? And the religious references seemed oddly out of place. While I thought the reveal about the accident was predictable, the behavior of the culprit at the end was surprising. All in all it was quick, entertaining read that kept me turning the pages.
