What made me pick up this book was the mystery that was promised, but I was surprised by beautiful writing about nature and Kya's connection to the marsh. I loved watching Kya grow and see how events that happened in her childhood affected her adult life, especially how they affected her relationships with other people. I LOVED Tate and was rooting for him the whole time. And that ending? I thought it was going a certain way and the last two pages took me completely by surprise.

One of my favorite things about this book is the nature. This book delves deeply into Kya's connection with nature. Everyone she had ever lived abandoned her, but the marsh was always there for her. The writing is beautiful.
