apollo will fall, but apollo will rise again

okay i'm depressed. thanks, rick, for breaking my heart once again.

i'll admit, toa isn't my favourite of the half-blood chronicles, but i love it as if it's my favourite, so you can imagine how much i love hoo and pjo. this book was by far my favourite in the series. i loved how rick tied up all the loose ends and wrapped up apollo's story so beautifully. speaking of apollo, he evolved so much as a character and has kept jason's wish in mind: he remembered what it's like to be human.

apollo's relationship with his children (i was about to say siblings because i still can't wrap my head around the fact that they were calling him "dad" when their dad is 17 years old) was fantastic. i wish we could have seen more of it, but no matter: what we got was satisfying enough. the role austin and kayla and the rest of apollo's children played in the final battle was brilliant. seeing more of them and original characters such as rachel dare (who still has that blue plastic hairbrush she had in [b:The Battle of the Labyrinth|2120932|The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #4)|Rick Riordan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1518607478l/2120932._SX50_.jpg|2377629] - yes, THAT blue plastic hairbrush), sally, paul and estelle stirred up several emotions.

i also liked how will and nico's relationship was explored in more depth, and how we got to see how will changed nico for the better. i mean, honestly, nico was more touchy and he was laughing quite a bit. LAUGHING! speaking of nico, his crippling mental health after the events of hoo is evident from the moment he appeared. it's depicted in so much more depth and it makes me love him and appreciate his resilience even more. i keep forgetting that he's still a kid. and i like how both will and nico played a huge role in the final battle, which was fantastic.

the final battle . . . i was so satisfied with it, and it plays a huge role in why i rated this book five stars. i can't say too much because of spoilers, but i loved it. i don't think i've been so satisfied with an ending since "avatar: the last airbender".

also, i've grown to love meg. okay, before you kill me, i didn't HATE meg in the beginning. i had very mixed feelings about her. i wasn't sure whether i liked her or not. i was just very "meh" about her. but seeing how far she's come and how much she was willing to sacrifice to defeat nero was heartbreakingly beautiful and caused me to love her growth and overall stubborn, bossy persona.

thanks, rick, for creating these amazing characters. thanks for playing a huge role in my love for mythology. and thanks for giving me two hundred and ten haiku to laugh at. above all, thanks for being such a great writer.
