In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust
5.0
In order to write a complete review of this novel I'd have to use my Proustian senses to remember everything that happened. But seriously, despite its length, this was one of the most enjoyable reads of the year for me. I could list countless passages that have stuck with me, but what I found most fulfilling within this body of work was how Marcel's empathy and perception of those that took up so much space in his life (whether it be society, love, familial, etc.) deepened and blossomed as time went on. And this wasn't from forgetting, but from remembering. My own thoughts on certain characters changed with Marcel's (not always the same as his own), and I honestly feel like I've walked the streets of Paris, Balbec, and Combray having read this. I also really loved Proust's more essayistic thoughts on writing in the final part of the novel!
