Against Massacre: Humanitarian Interventions in the Ottoman Empire, 1815-1914: Humanitarian Interventions in the Ottoman Empire, 1815-1914 by Davide Rodogno

3.0

Really interesting to contextualise in today's world and how humanitarian interest is beyond a moral duty, but there are political relationships and outcomes at play. This book is also interesting as it highlights intervention in areas like Syria, Libya, Lebanon, Macedonian districts during the 19th century.

Fascinating and important topic, broken up between interventionist and noninterventionist strategies. Notable that this was published in 2011 in the backdrop of similar conversations around humanitarian intervention in Libya. Would be worth reading alongside additional reading about the political policies of neutrality in order to understand the structures at play here.

Main complaint is that it was a bit dense to read!
