Woodworking by Emily St. James
4.5

A long time ago, I loved reading TV recaps, and when I made the connection that this author was one of my favorites from @theavc, I couldn’t pick up her book quickly enough. And sure enough, I couldn’t put it down. There was so much damn heart in every chapter and every time we switched between Erica and Abigail, I was so glad to rejoin them. I loved the way each of their narratives was shaped — Erica is in third person as she sorts through her confusion and struggles with choices, but Abigail speaks to the reader and is so solidly herself and it gives the book an incredible depth. And it is a coming out story but it’s also more than that — it’s a YA story about finding your place in the world and a second chance romance and a beautiful found family novel about what community means and how to find your people.
