I liked some parts more than others. Overall, I love Shafak’s writing style, but in this book I found some mannerisms a bit redundant (such as closing a chapter using a foreshadowing figure - is that how you call that? I’m not even sure). And maaaaany descriptions.
The story was beautiful, Elif Shafak has a true gift for storytelling. However, this has been perhaps my least favourite book of hers that I have read so far.
My favorite part was definitely the role of the city, her (yes, Istanbul is definitely a She city, as Shafak says herself in another of her novels) liveliness, her colours, smells, and sounds that were portrayed masterfully by the author.
