The Power by Naomi Alderman

5.0

I picked this up from the library on a whim as it was on the shelf of books recommended by the librarians. I had so many different emotions while reading this. I can see this becoming a very accurate portrayal of a potential parallel universe. The characters are all complex and interesting. They are very well-rounded and feel like they could be real people, doing these very real things. The last few pages of the book, including the author's note really got me thinking about way history is told and who is telling it.

There was a line in the book, and I wish I had thought to copy it at the time and didn't, so I'm likely not getting this exactly right, but it sticks with me and likely will for a long time. This woman, upon having her power awakened was thinking how everything feels like a summer afternoon. Everything is good, and full of promise. This must be the way men feel all of the time.

Highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
