Dead Girls by Abigail Tarttelin

5.0

Wow. What an ending. I will say I read the bulk of this book in 2 days. The 1st person narrative gave me the feeling of reading someone's diary, and for that to be in the perspective of an 11-year-old girl bought so much to my mind.

I've never been someone that reads reviews because most reviews give away most of the story. I like to be on the edge of my seat with each page, to be sucked into the story so completely that my own world disappears. This book did that for me. Not knowing what the story would turn out to be drove me forward finding out each new, small bit of information leading up to the final conclusion alongside Thera.

My heart was pulled in many directions. The idea of justice to a child is very different to that of an adult with more knowledge of the world and I think @abigailtarttelin_ displayed that well. She made you understand the perspective of this 11 year old and almost had me on the point of being with her at the end. Themes of blind loyalty, right and wrong, abuse and power all gave this story a thoughtful undertone and leaves the reader with lasting questions which cannot be easily answered. Thank you for such a book, Abigail. It was encapsulating.
