To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers

5.0

I'm upset, ok?

I absolutely loved this book, and I'm upset it's so short and the story is over! The ending is good but I'm still upset! I want to know more, I want the next step, I want more of these characters...

First I'd like to say I'm biased because I heard something like the first chapter being read by Becky Chambers herself at worldcon, so I was predisposed to love it already.

But even so, it's funny, it's scientific, but makes science easy and understandable and funny as well. It's a window into the different possibilities out there and it is, ultimately, full of hope. I don't think I've read something you could really call Hopepunk before, but that would be it for me.
It's got something of The Martian and something of Star Trek and something entirely its own. It makes me want to go back to when I hadn't read it so I can do it all over again!
