Fire Force, Vol. 1 by Atsushi Ohkubo
2.0
So disappointing!! There was an interesting premise here and then unnecessary crude humor had to ruin it. For years people have been spontaneously combusting and lately seem to take on powers and become fire devils that wreak havoc. Our main character’s mother was taken by a fire and he himself has some fire controlling powers (and a creepy devilish grin). Wanting to be a hero and find out the truth about his mother’s death he becomes the newest recruit of the Fire Squad 8, whose HQ is in a cathedral and there’s a nun on the team. There were some questions left to be answered about the world but unnecessary nudity (did we really need a shower scene with the only two female characters randomly at the beginning??) and unnecessary groping (another recruit distracts our MC during a competition by having him fall into her breast and grope her??) left me feeling icky after reading it and not interested in reading more. Super bummer because other than those things it seemed interesting.
