I was so excited to read this. A simple and somewhat uncomplicated romance novel to get me through a pretty boring weekend. Clearly, there was going to be a love triangle, but I was hoping that it would end up being okay, and it was. Because one of the characters was a total dick.

You couldn't help but instantly connect with Emily - she's 'every girl'. You know, the girl next door who's sweet and thoughtful and hardly ever thinks of herself. When Gavin meets her, he's pretty much instantly obsessed and will not let it go. It's awesome.

That being said, sometimes if something like this is not done right, it comes off as super fucking creepy. But McHugh did a good job with this, she managed to make him obsessed and instantly in love, yet still remain respectful of Emily's needs.

I really loved their chemistry and was hoping they would find their way together. And every single time that Dillon did something dickish, that hope got larger and larger. The feelings between Gavin and Emily was just crackling and actually made me kind of jealous.

And when they managed to connect finally, it was pretty epic. But it happened too early in the novel, and that filled me with sadness because I really wanted them to end up together at the end of book one. I know, impossible dreams.

But it ended. In a cliffhanger. Which just ... annoyed me. It did not fill me with excitement to read the next novel, it kind of filled me with anger honestly. But hey, you know I'll read it. I just need to calm down that I had been betrayed once more by a cliffhanger before I read it.
