“The stars can wink out one by one, and I’ll still love you. The sun can fall dark in the sky, and you will still be my light, my life.”
“Bound to the Orc Warlord” is one of my favorite reads of the year.
After liking the prequel novella “Bound to the Orc Ranger”, I was eager but also nervous to start this one. While I enjoyed the prequel, it could have been better if it had more depth and details regarding the magic system. I was over the moon when the novel not only had the depth and explanation I was looking for, but also had the same cool action and top-tier humor that I loved in the previous one.
One of my favorite tropes is the grumpy x sunshine one, and Ashley and Dravarr are perfect fits for the parts. Ashley was literally the biggest sunshine in the world, and I loved how she always tried to see the best in everything and everyone. Dravarr was the ultimate grump, judgmental and skeptical of the whole situation. I really enjoyed their character developments throughout the novel—from Ashley getting confident and controlling her magic like a pro to Dravarr finally realizing that there are multiple ways to be strong.
Plus great worldbuilding, so many awesome fantasy creatures like talking unicorns, dragons and pixies, and lovable support characters—I can't recommend the book enough.
