challenging emotional hopeful sad medium-paced
a jarring, raw, and heartbreaking read. this memoir shattered and stomped on my heart before mending it again by the end. the strength and resilience of the author and her family is unbelievable. there's an inherent connection felt among those whose backgrounds are intertwined with Hawaii and I just really appreciated all the moments where Asian-American/Hawaiian/island culture were woven in. this was also so beautifully written, every detail and moment held significance, and how everything connected together by the end was done perfectly.
