I’ve had this book on my shelves for well over a decade. I finally picked it up and thought it was…fine. To be fair, poetry is not my strong suit. The majority of it goes right over my head. However, I deeply appreciated Ginsberg’s openness about his sexuality, as well as his expression of the profound sadness and loneliness that accompanied him throughout his life.

I also understood enough of this book to realize why this would be the type of book Jess Mariano would have read “about 40 times” by age 17. Gilmore Girls fans know what I’m talking about.
