my god this book rearranged my brain chemistry. it was so dark, so twisted, and so grotesque but never excessive. irina is such an interesting and complex protagonist and i think clark nailed the fine line between being completely unlikable/unbearable and relatable. whether or not you completely hate irina (bc there isnt much to love), there are things she says or does which i found myself agreeing with or finding funny, which complimented the darker tone throughout.

for a debut novel, the prose were so encapsulating and as for the narrative itself i completely loved it. i thought it was very well crafted, with certain things being referenced to early on then paying off later in the book in very significant ways. also the social commentary about gender, consent, the expectations on women and how they often aren’t viewed as an inherent threat as opposed to men was soo rich but if i try get into that now this will turn into an essay so.

oh and the audiobook performance was absolutely amazing like wow it was so good. anyways the best way to go into this is blind imo so i wont give any spoilers bc honestly everyone should read this novel bc we need more unhinged women in media !!
