The first half of this was really a really easy read. The characters were fascinating and their .. slightly dodgy antics were titillating and endearing. I was really enjoying the story until it hit a point about three quarters in where the pace seemed to hitch and things started lacking urgency.
Either my caffeine levels were running low of my patience with the book began to ebb as I started to tire. Just as new and interesting characters are introduced, I think perhaps my interest was dwindling as the main characters worked toward something that _they_ thought was important that I really couldn't be bothered with. I have a lot more time for personal affection than for the trappings of custom, so perhaps what some may find romantic and endearing was frankly ... dull as dishwater to me. I felt that for a story with such a strong start, the end of this section ends, a bit deflated.
