Kierston Modglin has done it again. She writes one hit suspense novel after another in quick succession. I love her highly readable style of writing. Wes has worked hard to get ahead at his job and it has nearly cost him his marriage. His wife kicked him out and he is living in a motel that's just a step above sleazy. He runs into an old friend at the supermarket, at least an old acquaintance who knows him but whom he can't quite seem to remember. Out of desperation Wes moves into Elias's spare room and thing immediately start getting crazier both with his job and his life. This book kept me reading late into the night trying to figure out what Elias's game was. The characters were were well developed and relatable. Wes is the overworked Dad who doesn't have a clue what he has done wrong. Addy is the fed-up wife who just can't take any more. She says she wants space to work things out but it was evident from the beginning that she really has no intention of trying, and for this reason she irritated me. Rory is the spoiled teenager upset that they had moved away from her friends and getting bullied at school. I should have felt sorry for her but I thought she was a brat. And then there was Elias. “Something wasn’t right about Elias” I never quite figured him out and was surprised at the ending. There were plenty of twists along the way to keep me guessing. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. A positive review was not required. I really did love this book and I highly recommend it to all fans of suspense stories.
