Ancillary Mercy by Ann Leckie
5.0
This series ended up being much better than the sum of its parts, I'd say. The first book was a bit slow and difficult at times, though ultimately excellent. The second definitely slowed even more and had endless tea which became tiresome- but the plot of it had bigger pay off here in the last of the trilogy. This wasn't the least slow, had a good deal of action, and brought a lot of threads together beautifully.
The concept of the series also remains innovative and exciting, and seeing Breq discover who she is- no longer truly a ship, no longer truly an ancillary, and not a human, either- provides a terrific underscore to the larger bits of action and more obvious plots.
All in all, highly recommend the series.
