I was curious about this book because I enjoyed Holly Jackson’s YA novels some years ago and wanted to see how her first adult thriller would compare.
However, I found the main characters a bit childish in the way they interacted with the world and with each other. I don’t mind reading YA from time to time, but in this story it started to feel a little annoying.
The plot takes place over a few days, with some references to the past woven in. Those parts were interesting, but overall it didn’t feel like a steadily building, gripping thriller—perhaps because there were so many twists along the way.
In the end, I gave it 3.75 stars. I enjoyed the story, but I wasn’t sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next.
