fionayule 's review for:
All We Shall Know
by Donal Ryan
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for my free copy in return for my honest review.
Melody Shee is pregnant and the father of her child is not her husband but a teenage traveller she was teaching to read and write.
The story is told my Melody how she copes with her pregnancy, being alone and estranged from her husband in small town rural Ireland.
And she tells her story very well giving insights into rural life. How the mass goers are the first to cast the stone. How enclosed the Traveller culture is and how difficult it is for them.
I loved this story Melody and her friend Mary Crothery strike up an unlikely friendship and I found that I genuinely cared what happened to them.
Her accent is think but don’t let it put you off as it’s a wonderful story glimpsing into a rural Ireland which still exists.
Really enjoyed.
