This book was so much more than I originally thought. I heard a few things about it through booktok but I had forgotten the plot. I just remembered that I thought “hey, I want to read that book. TBR list it goes” and so when I got it I decided not to read what it was about again and just dive into it. BOY, was that a ride!? Max is so much more than any other book boy I’ve ever read. He’s kind, and caring, and damaged but not to the point where he’s cruel to the FMC. He’s understanding! Tisaanah is everything a badass female lead should be and more! She’s got scars, (literally) but that doesn’t stop her from going after what she wants and that’s freedom for her people.

If you’re thinking about picking up a fantasy book, make it this one!!
