I should like to see Mr. Rankin return John Rebus to the center of the universe. I like the other primary characters, but it was John Rebus that hooked me from the start. I should probably read a Rebus book even if no crime was involved. That said, it is my opinion that Mr. Rankin deserves his position as a pillar of the contemporary crime fiction guild of writers.
