Hitler: Ascent: 1889-1939
by Volker Ullrich
This book was jam-packed with information and research. It's uncomfortable to say that I "really liked it," because the subject is horrifying, but I really appreciated Ullrich's approach - diving deep into everything that led up to the start of World War II and who Hitler was as a person. There is SO MUCH I did not know or understand about Hitler and his path to dictatorship. There are many parallels one could make to things happening today in America (although Trump is no Hitler - Hitler is far more strategic and cunning than Trump), and I think it is important to pay attention and learn history so we recognize those parallels and take action.
