first I'll say, overall I'm very conflicted and confused and my head's all muddled!
Starting off with what I didn't enjoy; Katharine and William's engagement took YEARS off my life. Why the fuck did they wait so fucking long to officially call it off and tell people??? Like I can find no reason for it
Also, the amount of feelings changing over the span of moments gave me whiplash. Why are characters always going from "He felt such tenderness towards her. But then he wished to hurt her gravely. Oh but then that evaporated and he loved her again," it just happened so much and it just left one (me) with the feeling that no one in this book liked each other that much!!!!
I also really could have done without the last 50 or so pages-- it started to frustrate me how much people were talking about things and changing their mind and running all over the place!
Finally, I'm very conflicted as to how I feel about Katharine's ending. I sort of started to believe her when she said she didn't want to marry and she didn't love anyone and she didn't want Ralph to love her! But then, I also believe that she was just very depressed and repressed and holding it back and I love her and Ralph together, so, idk!!!!
All in all, I feel like my main critique is that I wish it had been edited and trimmed down more.
That being said, the book gets 4 stars from me because holy shit the writing and the characterisation made me feel SO much. Everyone was such a full, real, character-- especially Katharine! And I just felt so deeply for her!
I know my critiques seem to outweigh my pros but it's more because the pros aren't anything specific they're just... the book and the style of it and the characters, which all happen on every page
