Look, I’m not going to rate a book horribly just because I don’t like certain characters. I think Stephanie Garber does a good job of storytelling and she creates marvelous worlds for these characters to live in. She gets 5 stars for that. But I’ve only met maybe 3 other main characters in other books that I’ve despised more than Evangeline.
I don’t like the bad boy trope, and she makes the horrible decision to choose Jacks over and over and over again when it just causes her pain and suffering.
She’s VERY persistent, but that isn’t always a good thing!
I wish her and Apollo had a legit chance, but I guess that’s what fanfic is for
I would give Evangeline and her undeveloped prefrontal cortex a 1.5 stars, so we’ll even out the book’s rating to 3.

I often give books 3 stars when they are written fine, but I did not connect with the material. It’s when I have a personal dislike for it but I know I’m not the audience for it. I know it’s not the book’s fault, so I give it a mediocre rating instead of a poor one.
