I love this book. It managed to keep the setting of "historical and therefore homophobia is present in society" without it being triggering or depressing. The same for sexist and racism - they're present, but in a way that shows those views are stupid without it being emotionally taxing or heavy. Plus it ends happy! (And has a lead in to more in the world for later!!)
