The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler

5.0

4.5 stars.

At first, I didn't really connect with Jude, but as the book progressed I grew to like her and her family quite a lot. This is my first book about Alzheimer's and it was emotional and heartbreaking but not without some uplifting moments with sweet romance and hope.
Spoiler The scene at the drugstore with Jude's father and Emilio helping him was so heartbreaking and was probably when I really started getting into the book.

I loved Emilio and his mom. I loved how Emilio was patient and understanding with Jude's father and how Jude and Emilio's relationship developed.

The only thing was the oath. Maybe it's because I'm an only child but I never really fully understood the oath. I also wish we got to find out more about Jude's sisters and the other Vargas brothers.

But, despite my thing with the oath, this book was very good and I look forward to reading more by Sarah Ockler.
