The Hollow Ones
by Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan
adventurous
dark
mysterious
tense
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Strong character development:
Yes
Loveable characters:
Yes
Diverse cast of characters:
Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Complicated
Starts with violence and ramps it up to 100 real quick!
Being a Guillermo del Toro story there's a fantastical, supernatural element while exploring topics of racism and segregation.
The cast of characters is diverse and likeable, and I was especially fond of the titular Hugo Blackwood. I found myself imagining it as a movie, and the length and speed of the story feels about right for it.
Nice, easy horror read.
