A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares by Krystal Sutherland

5.0

You really think the curse is the most interesting thing about you, but it isn't. It doesn't even make the top five. You being scared of cornfields and aliens doesn't make you some special snowflake. Everybody's fear sounds the same in their head.

THIS. FRICKING. BOOK.

The last time I've ever read such painfully and beautifully written contemporary YA book about teens with MI was Made You Up by Francesca Zappia. I don't wanna compare these two books; my point is - FINALLY I'VE READ SOMETHING GREAT AGAIN OH MY GOD. I didn't find anything to dislike about the whole storyline and characteristics etc. I love how the author wrote about pretty heavy topics (MI, abusive parent, suicidal attempt, broken family etc) but still managed to make it enjoyable along the way.

Esther Solar is my favourite character; she is strong as hell and cares more about her twin brother more than about herself. In fact, she cares about everyone else BUT herself. Jonah Smallwood is the perfect boyfriend material, all-around. I think both of them compliment each other just perfectly??? Can someone, anyone make a romcom based on this book already???

Also, I've lost count how many times I wanna bookmark the perfect quotes from this book on my kindle. There are soooo many. They ain't just typically quotable phrases but they just that perfect in the storyline. So yeah, I'd really really really recommend y'all to read this book. Heck, if you decide to read only one YA book this entire year, go make this piece your choice. You're welcome.

I would say that everybody dies, whether they live their life in fear or not. And that - death - is not something to be afraid of.
