Little Thieves by Margaret Owen

5.0

An absolutely gorgeous retelling of ‘the goose girl.’
The main character has a knack for thievery and love a good five finger discount. She’s impersonating the princess and stealing from the rich to provide herself a passage of escape in an interesting Robin Hood scenario.
Unfortunately she gets found out by a goddess who grants a curse upon her, she will become that which she steals.

The world Owen created is vivid and the characters are phenomenal. This book has sapphic side characters who don’t feel like they were written in to meet an inclusivity standard, their relationship felt real and tangible.
The descriptions of the gemstones protruding from under her skin gave me the ick in the best possible way.
I appreciate that the main character could have just happily fallen in love and she chose not to, she chose her own path and to me, that is so powerful.

The dedication hit me right in the feels as did the acknowledgments - seriously I’m crying just thinking about them. If you feel like you are a terrible person doing terrible things, if you struggle to understand your worth and don’t see how people value you; please, read this book.
This book helped me feel seen and appreciated.
