This book felt like it was written by an author who woke up from a dream but could only remember 30% of the dream plot each time and scribbled it down before she forgot the details.
Spoilers:
The second half of the book flies through various locations with no descriptions such as the tunnels under her aunt's safe house, through the Many Ends twice, through a section of Myriad so quickly I felt like I had whiplash.
I couldn't follow how sometimes the souls in the Shells stayed alive but sometimes the souls died and it seemed entirely arbitrary either way. And I don't understand how Tenly can die and be resurrected 4 times, like nobody is that special. Also does she like Archer like a boyfriend or a friend or a brother, I got all three vibes at different points and couldn't understand what his role was to move the plot forward.
The romance between Killian and Tenly also made no sense, and there was very little character development to showcase their attraction to one another. Killian's supposed to be a wham bam thank you ma'am kind of guy, but he almost instantly falls for Tenley for no clear reason.
I really wanted to like this book, but it was fairly unlovable because it was so confusing.
