Angels Before Man had a very promising premise, but inevitably fell flat. I loved the idea of a queer retelling of Lucifer's fall from heaven, but I didn't expect it to be so boring. I knew that there would be lots of religious talk and imagery based on the concept, but most of the book was just Lucifer prising God and worshipping both him and Michael. I wished that there was more conflict and romance throughout the book. This felt like an okay fanfiction that I'd read on AO3, but with better cover art and grammar. I would pick this book up again in the future if I felt like it, but at the moment have Jo desire to reread it. I was able to skip a few pages at a time without feeling like I missed anything. The book could have been cut shorter with some details taken out and I think that would have made it more exciting.
