While I think the general premise of this book is intriguing and causes us to take a close look at ourselves and our true nature, I had some serious issues with it as well.

1. There is an INSANE amount of unnecessary SA in this book (this man is obsessed with nipples?) in my opinion. It did not add to the story in any way, and rather than feeling truly terrifying, it felt like a grab at shocking you for no reason.

2. I hated all the “main” characters in this book. And I do mean all of them. Which in turn made it insanely hard to care about what happened to them.

3. There seemed to be quite a lot of unnecessary misogyny in this book. The only female character’s perspective is a heavily abused woman, and she’s portrayed as this kind of villain while the male characters get to play act at being decent humans (although for some of them we find out later that’s not necessarily the case).

Aside from that, the plot was very unique and I enjoyed that the “big bad” was given to us right up front without all the typical mystery of horror novels. I wanted to keep reading despite my stated issues with the book.
