When the Cranes Fly South
by Lisa Ridzén
While this is not a book where a lot of fast-paced events occur, it is a beautiful and moving story about an elderly man nearing the end of his life. I enjoyed the caregivers’ notes sprinkled throughout. I also liked how the chapters felt very stream-of-consciousness at times. It felt true to what the thoughts of a man living alone would be like.
Overall, this is a very touching story about a man who wants to do things for himself as long as possible as he nears his death. It moved me to tears.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, and Vintage Publishing Group for an advanced copy of this novel.
