This is a slow starter but by the end I couldn't put it down and was going to throw the book at the wall if the plot did not go the way I wanted. I was so invested in these characters and very much looking forward to reading the 2nd book in this trilogy. 
The writing style had some telling, which is typical of books from this time. 
I love the fatherly representation and relationship within this book.
