The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

2.0

Ok…I’m gonna get a lot of hate for this… but this was one of the worst books I’ve ever read.

Granted, I know as a queer woman that I’m not the audience for it. But with that said, the spicy scenes were the best part about this book. Everything else was terrible.

The whole concept that the book is based on- Olive kissing a professor to make her best friend think that she’s over a guy she went on just a couple dates with- is so unrealistic. And for a book that I think prided itself on being a realistic portrayal of academia, this was really disappointing.

One of the biggest problems I had with this books is that Olive is written as asexual (the word is even used!) but instead of using positive asexual rep, the author chooses to talk about how Olive has “something wrong with my brain.” Definitely put a bad taste in my mouth.

Some sentences were so poorly written, I laughed out loud thinking “how did this get published?!”

This author should stick to erotica. And if she writes another rom com (I know she has but I don’t plan on reading them), maybe not try to fit in every trope while also *saying* you’re using those tropes?
