Everything you expect from a YA fantasy; angsty one liners, deeply traumatic backgrounds, and romance. I’ve read Bardugo’s “Shadow and Bone” series when I was a teenager, but don’t remember most of it; however, her style of writing is intriguing and keeps you turning pages. It’s exactly how I remember it being before, but I care about these 6 characters a bit more than I did in SaB.

TW/CW: torture, slight gore/ body horror, racism
