I’ve wanted to read this book for a while and it did not disappoint! This is a true heist book through and through with complex characters and a great story.

Taking place a few years after the events of the Shadow and Bone Trilogy, the author does a great job expanding the world beyond Ravka and focusing on new characters and a new, more complex world. The characters backgrounds and POVs are richly detailed and fleshed out and engaging. I was hooked.

However, I just needed the characters to be a bit older. Many are 15-17 for these really complex and dangerous heists and much darker backgrounds. It’s not that these characters can’t be an assassin at 15, it just seems like suspending disbelief a bit too much in an already fantasy world.

Overall, this was a great story that has a bunch of action and is a true heist book through and through. I definitely thought it lived up to the hype!
