Tales from Watership Down
by Richard Adams
Just re-read Watership Down before reading this. I love Watership Down, it's probably my most favorite book ever (even trumping Harry Potter, which says a lot about this). Watership Down concludes beautifully and completely with the death of Hazel at the end, so returning to the same characters felt odd with this book. Tales was okay, and I like the format of the story/mythology collection, but it felt incomplete and rushed at times. El-ahrairah didn't seem as crafty in many of the stories. The original is definitely the best, but I think this was worth the read. I only wish that there was a more complete collection of myths about El-ahrairah separate from Watership Down, and more stories included in this book about Hazel and his rabbits.
