I am new to urban fantasy but man, this is what I imagine it should be, not the garbage I read with Clary and Jace.
set in Victorian London, this was more mature than the mortal instruments trilogy and the characters were actually likeable. it's like a completely different author wrote this book and I am smitten. I knew this world and idea had potential and so far, it was executed well in this novel and I am actually dying to continue on.
you do NOT have to read the mortal instruments before this book if you don't want to. there are Easter eggs but all in all the world building and explaining is perfectly fine in this book you will not be lost. the only benefit are the nods and references to characters you met previously, that is all. I so WISH I had started with this prequel. if I did I probably would have DNF'd mortal instruments after book one lol.
alright I know jem is a sweetheart and a sensitive baby angel and I love him for that but I am also sick in the head and absolutely not mentally well so I can't help it... I am obsessed with Will Herondale and he better be end game and get a redemption or I'll throw a FIT. 😤🤺
